1888 Horseman Lawn Tennis Box |
ITEM 1: This is an exceptional 1888 Horseman Lawn Tennis Box. This incredible vintage tennis item comes in the form of a wooden box that back in 1888, held a complete lawn tennis kit. Most likely it would have included two or four rackets, the net, the posts and stakes to assemble the net, and possibly a few lawn tennis balls. Unfortunately, those items are not present. However the box itself, with the original paper lithograph label has remained. The condition is unbelievable! The paper label is almost perfectly intact and the color simply could not be more brilliant. It must have been stored in just the right conditions for the past 123 or so years! The box measures 14 1/2"x 36" and the paper litho measures 12"x 22 1/2". Horseman was based in New York City and was the first American maker of lawn tennis equipment. This phenomenal vintage tennis box could be the cornerstone of any antique tennis collection! SOLD |
1930’s Pennsylvania Championship Tennis Ball Can |

1920-30’s Vinnie Richards, Dunlop Flat-Top Tennis Ball Can UNOPENED |
ITEM 3: 1920-30’s Vinnie Richards, Dunlop Flat-Top Tennis Ball Can UNOPENED. This is a fabulous early tennis can. It is a "tear-top" model which is an example of the earliest design. Called a "tear-top" because when the key was used to open the can it tore or sliced right through the metal leaving a dangerously sharp edge around the top of the can. There was no lid, the portion that came off when opened was to be discarded. This poor design did not last long which explains the rarity of this can. Another point of intrigue is the endorsement by Vinnie Richards. Very few tennis balls were endorsed by players and this is among the earliest... it is practically a piece of advertising! The condition is NR-MT! SOLD |
