Circa. 1905 “D&M” Style Mushroom Baseball Bat
Presented here is an unusual Circa 1905 Draper & Maynard Style Mushroom Baseball Bat, featuring an early “D&M” logo. However, this unusual “D&M” logo is either incomplete, an uncommon D&M logo, or an impressive job of replicating a D&M style logo. This scarce example represents a fine offering from the golden age of bat experimentation, when manufacturers sought new and innovative designs to improve a player’s grip and swing.
The bat showcases the distinctive “mushroom” knob — a bold and short-lived design intended to counterbalance the barrel and provide improved bat control. Crafted of high-quality hardwood, the bat retains a smooth, rich surface with only light wear from age and use, and remains in excellent overall condition. Most impressive is the early Draper & Maynard style logo crisply stamped into the barrel.
The bat maintains strong form and balance, with an attractive patina that speaks to its vintage authenticity. Mushroom bats of any make are difficult to locate, but those bearing such an early “D&M” mark are exceptionally scarce and highly prized among advanced collectors.
