Rare Circa. 1905 Pennant Brand Mushroom Style Bulbous Knob Bat
Presented here is a scarce and highly attractive Circa 1905 Pennant Brand “Mushroom” Bat, a wonderful survivor from the deadball era and an outstanding example of early 20th century bat-making ingenuity. The distinctive bulbous knob design was a short-lived but innovative feature of the period, intended to improve balance and grip in the hitter’s hands, and today remains one of the most recognizable and desirable early bat styles among advanced collectors.
This handsome bat measures a full-length profile with a thick barrel tapering gracefully into the trademark mushroom-shaped knob. The wood retains a smooth, rich surface with only light use evident, and the overall condition is excellent — remarkable for an example now well over a century old. Deeply stamped into the barrel is the Pennant logo, still clearly legible and sharply defined.
The mushroom bat style was produced only for a brief window in the early 1900s, making authentic survivors rare and highly sought after. This Pennant Brand model, with its strong markings and outstanding state of preservation, stands as a particularly appealing specimen.
A true piece of turn-of-the-century baseball history, this 1905 Pennant Brand Mushroom Bat would be a standout in any collection of vintage bats or early baseball equipment.
