Product Details

Presented here is a charming and unique Vintage 1960’s West Virginia University Paper Mâché Mascot Figure, a delightful relic from the golden era of college spirit and campus pride. This hand-crafted figure captures the rugged frontier persona of the Mountaineer mascot, rendered in classic mid-century style with bold colors and expressive detail.

Standing approximately 6 inches tall, the figure is constructed of lightweight paper mâché (same material as a Bobble Head) and hand-painted. The Mountaineer is depicted in full frontier garb — complete with buckskin fringe and musket in hand — his stance both spirited and stoic, a perfect embodiment of Mountaineer grit and tradition.

The paint remains vibrant with just the right touch of gentle aging, giving the figure an appealing patina without compromising visual integrity. Light surface wear is present, consistent with age, but the structure remains sound and entirely original. These fragile, display-oriented pieces were produced in limited numbers, often for promotional or campus use, and were never intended to survive the decades.

A wonderful piece of mid-century collegiate folk art, this 1960’s West Virginia Mountaineer mascot figure is a must-have for the advanced WVU collector, or anyone who appreciates the handcrafted charm of vintage school spirit memorabilia. A spirited salute to old gold and blue! Please call directly with any questions or concerns.
